Looking for Banksy

Graffiti  artist, painter, revolutionary, vandal, the name Banksy elicits a variety of attributes. People say he was born in 1975, that he is from Bristol and he moved to London in 2000, that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are big fans, that he has a silver tooth, and his parents believe him to be a painter or an interior decorator.

I came across one of his creations a few years ago and have followed his work ever since because I enjoy the wit, the humor, and even the causticity he employs in order to make his message subtle, yet accessible, simple, yet penetrating.

I do not contest that Banksy is an enigma, one that is also wrapped in a conundrum. But, I don’t really care who he is, or what car he drives and where he buys his groceries. The only matter of concern to me is his art and more importantly, its moral.

Below are a few more of my favorite Banksy works.

Until next time,

Serenity Now

Whenever I am having a bad day, I try to escape it by opening up one of my favorite volumes, ‘The Hat Book’ by photographer Rodney Smith. I peruse the beautiful photographs  that lie between the covers and soon all worries melt away.

Rodney Smith’s images are serene and pure, surrealist stories that break the line between reality and imagination, draw me into a  world of fantasy  and remind  me that there are multiple ways of seeing situations and people. I am completely and irrevocably smitten with his creations and I cannot think of a better way to end a difficult week than with a cup of tea and this dear book.

Above and below are a few of my favorite Rodney Smith gems.

Until next time,

Bodhi.

Maggie Austin

I truly believe that there are people in this world who are chiefly meant to create splendor, to amaze and inspire the rest of us and no matter what obstacles life throws in their way, they cannot be stopped from accomplishing this purpose. Maggie Austin is indisputably one of those persons. After an injury put an end to her career as a classic ballet dancer, Maggie refocused her attention to detail and the discipline instilled by years of ballet training, into creating ethereal looking wedding cakes.

Maggie Austin‘s pastries are edible works of art. Their lines are clean and the esthetic is unbelievably tasteful. Each cake is custom-made according to the theme of the wedding, the inclinations of the couple and of course, Maggie’s artistic hand.

The only issue that I see with these awe-inspiring creations is that it must be heartbreaking to make the traditional incision and thus, ruin the masterpiece. But, hey, cakes are meant to be tasted and an anniversary is an excellent occasion to order another celebratory dessert jewel .

Until next time,

Bodhi.
